Tour of Hamilton Community Food Centre
The newest Community Food Centre to open in Canada, Hamilton CFC opened its doors in early 2017. By April, their programming will be well underway with a Community Action Program, an intercultural community kitchen, an after-school program, a Good Food Market and drop-in café, and two weekly meals. We’ll hop on a bus and take the trip to Hamilton to see it in action and hear how they found a site, renovated a space, hired a team, and developed programming all within the past two years.

A member of CFCC's Good Food Organizations program, The South Riverdale Community Health Centre (SRCHC) is a community-based organization that offers primary health care services and health promotion programs in a diverse community. As part of their work operating a bustling health services hub, they have successfully incorporated a range of food security programs to support vulnerable populations including an affordable produce market, a cooking group, diabetes support groups, a Chinese language peer nutrition group, and a rooftop wellness garden.

As part of its harm reduction strategy, plans are also in the works for SRCHC to become a Supervised Injection Site.
